Nologix Summer Researchers

We are currently looking for four people to take up research positions with us for the summer. Each researcher will focus on an individual tech policy related research project of their choice. They will work with the Nologix team to engage with industry experts, stakeholders, and our advisers on the topic. The final product, after two months, is expected to be a white paper or policy report, which will be published.

Applications end 29th June, but we will review them on a rolling basis so make sure to apply early! Email maham.saleem@nologix.org if you have any questions.

Application tips:

  • The application involves an 800 word pitch of your research project. We’re looking for research project ideas that have been given generous thought and consideration, that the researcher is likely to see through to completion — a 20 minute Google search probably won’t reach the standard we expect for projects.

  • The research projects should have a purpose. Remember to justify why your project is relevant and worth undertaking. It is not enough to just be interested in the area — it is best to intend to argue for a position or otherwise create value by adding to existing research. It is also worth remembering the focus will be on policy research, not traditional academic research.

  • Specificity is valued. A general proposal for a report on AI regulation, for example, is not nearly as good a proposal as a comprehensive policy paper on a particular element or domain within AI regulation.

  • You’re welcome to use generative AI tools, but extensive use is generally recognisable and less originality and critical evaluation will shine through in the writing. I will also conduct interviews so genuine interest and knowledge of a research area will be easy to distinguish!

  • We expect you to be able to dedicate 14 hours per week to this project, as it is over the summer period. Applicants who are extensively committed elsewhere will be deprioritised. The projects will be conducted individually, not in teams.

All positions at Nologix are voluntary roles. Work will largely be conducted online, though there will be in-person policy, training, and social events.
